As a passionate choral conductor, Darrel has worked with various choirs in Malaysia and in the UK. His passion lies in Renaissance and Baroque repertoire, but his repertoire also extends to contemporary composers such as James MacMillan and Arvo Pärt. Notable works conducted include Tallis Lamentations of Jeremiah, Monteverdi Sestina and Rachmaninov Vespers.
Darrel works with the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire's Camerata choir, and was also the chorus master for the RBC's vocal department's production of Britten's The Beggar's Opera in 2017. He was also the chorus master for Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe, Suite no.2 during the RBC's Official Royal Opening Gala Concert in 2018.
Recently, Darrel has conducted works composed by J.S. Bach's predecessors, such as Johann Michael Bach, Johann Christoph Bach and Johann Ludwig Bach. In October 2018, he will be recording his critical edition of Porpora's Dixit Dominus in G, for SSAA and strings.
